The Finnish Government has decided to introduce a new form of support intended to cover the costs of businesses that have experienced a marked decrease in turnover due to the coronavirus and have costs that are difficult to adjust. The support will be granted by the State Treasury.
The law on business cost support has been approved by Parliament on 27 November. Support is applied for from the State Treasury through e-service. The aim is to start processing applications on 21 December. The starting date will be confirmed on 18 December.
According to the new law, the support period is 1 June -31 October 2020. The support covers sectors whose turnover has fallen by at least 10%, when compared to a reference period. Those sectors are specified in a
government decree that will be adopted on 18 December.
Companies that do not fall within the scope of the sectors can also apply for support, as support can also be granted on a discretionary basis to companies that meet the other conditions for granting aid laid down by law. The goal of the State Treasury is that all eligible companies receive support, so we encourage you to apply for cost support also on a discretionary basis.
Prepare to apply for support
It is not necessary to apply for support as soon as the application period opens. If it’s possible for the company, you can have a holiday during the Christmas and New Year and return to the application next year. The State Treasury confirms both the opening and closing dates of the application period on the 18 of December. The State Treasury strives to make applying for support as effortless as possible. The application does not need attachments as we receive the information directly from the Tax Administration.
